5 Healthy Breakfast Ideas to Start Your Workday

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It provides you with energy, vitamins and nutrients that your body needs to function. And while skipping breakfast may sound harmless enough, it can take a toll on your health as well as your work productivity. The good news is that creating a healthy breakfast is easier than you may think. The following five breakfasts are just a few ways to start your workday off on the right foot.

#1) Fruit-Topped Yogurt

You can't go wrong with fruit-topped yogurt as a breakfast food. Yogurt is loaded in calcium and other essential nutrients. And when you top with fruit -- strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, bananas, etc. -- it adds a plethora of new vitamins and nutrients to it. Just remember to choose low-fat yogurt, such as Greek yogurt.

#2) Avocado Toast

Another healthy breakfast idea is avocado toast. This involves spreading slices of avocado across whole-wheat toast. Avocado isn't just delicious; it's good for your health. This fruit contains a plethora of beneficial vitamins and nutrients to provide you with long-lasting energy.

#3) Eggs

For a while, there was some concern that eggs contributed to high cholesterol. While eggs are high in dietary cholesterol, though, they won't necessarily raise your blood cholesterol levels. Recent studies have shown no link between the consumption of eggs and high blood cholesterol. On the contrary, eggs are the perfect breakfast food because of their high concentration of protein.

#4) Ham Biscuit

If you enjoy ham, try placing a couple slices on a biscuit for breakfast. Some people assume that ham is bad because of its high fat content. While ham does have more fat than leaner meats like chicken and turkey, it's still fine to consumption in moderation. A few slices of ham on a whole-wheat biscuit offers protein, fiber and other essential nutrients, making it a great choice for your morning breakfasts.

#5) Fruit Smoothie

Finally, consider a fruit smoothie for breakfast. When you're running late for work and don't have time to prepare a full meal, you can blend some fruit with milk to create a delicious and equally nutritious smoothie. Assuming you use skim or low-fat milk, a fruit smoothie is an excellent breakfast idea that's guaranteed to boost your energy levels. And if you don't drink all of it, you can store in your workplace's refrigerator to consume later.
