Skincare: 5 Simple Tips for Healthier Skin
What does your skincare regimen consist of? Skin is our body's first line of defense against infection. It serves as a barrier that prevents bacteria and viruses from entering our bodies. As we age, however, our skin becomes weaker and less elastic, which can lead to damage. The good news is that you can keep your skin healthy and youthful by following some simple tips. For healthier skin, consider these five skincare tips.
#1) Moisturize
Moisturizing your skin is essential to keeping it healthy. If your skin dries out, it may crack, peel or succumb to other types of damage. Problems such as these are easily prevented with the application of a moisturizing cream or lotion. At least once a day, apply a high-quality moisturizing cream or lotion to your skin. Moisturizing products such as these contain water, as well as nutrients, that will soak into your skin to keep it hydrated and healthy.
#2) Avoid Hot Baths and Showers
While you don't have to necessarily take a cold bath or shower, you should avoid taking hot baths and showers. Exposure to hot water will cause your skin to dry out. Heat essentially extracts the moisture from your skin. While the hot water may feel like it's hydrating your skin, it actually has the opposite effect by promoting dryness. Therefore, you should turn down the water temperature of your baths and showers for healthier skin.
#3) Eat More Almonds
It may sound like an unusual food for skincare purposes, but almonds have been shown to promote healthier skin. They contain high concentrations of omega-3 fatty acids, as well as antioxidants, that can turn back the hands of time. Almonds won't make you younger. They will, however, protect your skin from premature aging. If you're trying to achieve healthier skin, try to include almonds in your diet.
#4) Use a Sunscreen Product
When staying outdoors for an extended period, use sunscreen product to protect your skin from sun damage. Sun damage occurs as a result of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) light. When UV sunlight strikes your skin, it will damage your skin cells while promoting premature aging in the process. Sunscreen products are designed to prevent this from happening by shielding your skin from UV sunlight.
#5) Exfoliate
Don't forget to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliating isn't designed to moisturize your skin. Rather, it's designed to deep-clean your skin by removing debris from your pores. Over time, dirt and oils will collect inside the pores of your skin, at which point they can cause breakouts. Exfoliating will clean your pores so that this doesn't happen.
