How to Prevent Safety Eyewear From Fogging Up
Safety eyewear is an essential form of personal protective equipment (PPE) for millions of workers. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 2,000 workers sustain an eye injury during any given day. Safety eyewear is designed to protect against such injuries. It consists of glasses, goggles and other eye covering that, when worn, lower the risk of eye injury.
You may discover, however, that your safety eyewear fogs up. While there are different types of safety eyewear, most of them contain lenses. These transparent lenses can develop condensation that restricts their visibility. It's frustrating when you discover your glasses or goggles fogging up, but you can often prevent it from happening by following a few simple tips.
Choose Safety Eyewear With Anti-Fog Lenses
Not all types of safety eyewear are susceptible to fogging up. Some of them are designed with lenses that specifically discourage condensation. Known as anti-fog lenses, they allow for clearer vision and visibility. You don't have to worry about your safety eyewear fogging up if they feature anti-fog lenses. Anti-fog lenses are designed with a special coating that repels moisture.
Clean With Water and Dish Soap
You can prevent your safety eyewear from fogging up by cleaning the lenses with water and dish soap. Lenses, of course, can accumulate dirt. Regardless of which type of safety eyewear you have, the lenses will become dirty over time. Dirty lenses aren't just an eyesore; they promote condensation by offering condensation something to stick to (dirt).
Fortunately, you can clean the lenses with water and dish soap. Just place a clean washcloth under some warm water, add a few drops of mild dish soap to it, and then use the washcloth to wipe down the lenses. When finished, your safety eyewear will be better protected against condensation.
Use Anti-Fog Wipes
There are wipes available that are designed to prevent glasses and goggles from fogging up. Known as anti-fog wipes, they offer a quick and convenient solution when dealing with fogged-up safety eyewear. If you discover that your glasses or goggles have fogged up, you can use an anti-fog wipe to clean them.
Anti-fog wipes are designed to both clean the lenses while also protecting them from condensation. They are typically safe to use on all types of lenses. The main benefit of using anti-fog wipes, though, is their convenience. They consist of small and portable wipes that you can use while working.
