A water filter is something that all workplaces should have. Workers can be dehydrated, which can lead to slower reaction times, fatigue, nausea and loss of productivity. Rather than simply installing a fountain or faucet that's directly connected to the water supply line, though, you should consider investing in a water filter. It will remove contaminants from the water so that workers have access to pure, clean drinking water. Below are five things to consider when choosing a water filter for your workplace.
#1) NSF Certification
When choosing a water filter for your workplace, you should consider whether it's certified by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The NSF certifies high-quality and effective water filters. With NSF certification, you can rest assured knowing that the water filter will remove contaminants while providing workers with clean drinking water.
#2) Filtration Technology
Different types of water filters use different filtration technologies. Some of them use ionization technology, whereas others use carbon technology. Carbon technology is the most common. These water filters feature cartridges filled with carbon, such as charcoal. As water flows through them, the carbon will catch the contaminants.
#3) Contaminants Removed
You can't choose a water filter for your workplace without considering the contaminants that it removes. All water filters are designed to remove contaminants. With that said, the types of contaminants they remove -- as well as the concentration of those contaminants -- may vary. At a minimum, you should choose a water filter that's capable of removing lead and chlorine.
Something else to consider when choosing a water filter for your workplace is the capacity. Capacity refers to how much water it can filter before the cartridge must be replaced. It's not uncommon for water filters to have a capacity of 300 to 1,500 gallons. After reaching this capacity, you'll need to replace the cartridge. The higher the capacity, the less frequent you'll need to replace the cartridge. Therefore, you may want to choose a water filter with a high capacity, such as 1,000 gallons or more.
Of course, you should consider the price when choosing a water filter for your workplace. There are many different types of water filters, some of which are more expensive than others. The good news is that you can oftentimes save money by purchasing them in bulk. If you have a large workplace, you may want to buy 10 or more water filters. Buying them in bulk may result in a lower average cost per unit.
