Customized safety signs keep your workplace protected

Believe it or not, customized safety signs can do a lot to protect those who work in factories, plants or other industrial facilities. Given the numerous hazards these employees encounter on a daily basis, all their safety training and the myriad requirements set forth by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) can become a blur.

Safety signs are helpful reminders that danger may be lurking just around the corner, or that anyone entering a given area should be wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.

As such, OSHA has issued standards for safety signs as part of its wide array of workplace regulations.

The most important thing to remember is that safety signs absolutely must be placed in highly visible areas, so that all workers can see them no matter where they are on the floor.

OSHA delineates six general categories for these signs: danger, caution, exit, directional, safety instruction and traffic. Each has a very particular required color scheme (for danger, red, for caution, yellow) and places where they can and cannot be used. For instance, a red and white "danger" sign can't be placed in an area where there is not an immediate hazard.
