5 Steps to Improve Worker Productivity
There are only so many hours in the workday, which is why it's important to make the best possible use of them. Regardless of industry, however, there are certain steps that workers can take to improve their productivity levels.
Avoid Social Media
Why should you avoid using social media? Sites like Facebook and Twitter have undeniably changed the way in which we communicate, but they can also take a toll on worker productivity levels. So when you're on the job, avoid using social media networks unless it's strictly for work-related purposes. If you need help staying on track, try using an app or program that limits or blocks access to social media networks.
Watch the Distractions
It should come as little-to-no surprise that "distractions" are among the most common productivity killers in the workplace. Distractions may consist of coworkers gossiping, televisions, radio, etc. If a distraction is hurting your ability to produce work, eliminate it from your environment. Doing so will go a long ways in boosting your productivity levels.
Get More Sleep
It's estimates that more than half of the U.S. adult population suffers from some type of sleep or wakefulness disorder. Unfortunately, lack of sleep does more than just cause fatigue; it can also hurt your ability to produce work. A good rule of thumb is to strive for a minimum of seven-to-eight hours of restful sleep per night. If you have trouble achieving this amount, try to get on a schedule in which you go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday.
Limit Email
Don't get me wrong, email certainly has a place in today's workplace, as it allows workers to communicate with co-workers and clients with the click of the mouse. But studies have shown that checking your inbox too frequently may lead to lower productivity levels.
Eat a Nutritious Diet
Remember the old saying "you are what you eat?" Well, there's actually truth to that statement. Consuming a diet high in sodium, refined sugars and processed foods will take a toll on your body and health, subsequently hurting your productivity levels in the process. But consuming a nutritious diet based around lean meats, fresh fruits, and fresh vegetables will boost your health and productivity levels.
